ADB in talks for energy efficiency credit line

The Asian Development Bank expects to step up its funding for the renewable energy sector, both sovereign and directly to the private sector. It is in discussions to channelise a credit line for energy efficiency.

Tata Power distribution firm rolls out mega smart metering drive for consumers

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL), the Tata Power subsidiary that distributes power in Delhi, today launched a mega drive to rollout smart metering services for its consumers. Gadkari to set up task force for speedy implementation of Ganga cleaning projects

Union transport, highways and shipping minister Nitin Gadkari, who assumed additional charge of water resources ministry on Monday, announced that he would soon set up a task force for "speedy" implementation of all ongoing programmes including the Ganga rejuvenation projects.

Polavaram project: NGT directs MoEF, Andhra Pradesh government to examine waste dumping

The National Green Tribunal has directed the Environment Ministry and the Andhra Pradesh government to examine a plea claiming that huge amounts of waste was being dumped in agricultural lands near the Polavaram project.

Ghazipur landfill collapse: NGT issues notices to civic body, state and DDA

Days after a huge portion of the 50-metre-high Ghazipur landfill collapsed, killing two persons, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday issued showcause notices to the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

State Bank of India planning $3 bn green bonds

India’s largest lender plans to raise up to $3 billion in the country’s biggest overseas green-bond issue, tapping the likes of BlackRock, International Finance Corp and JPMorgan-backed entities for funding projects that will help achieve the government’s commitments toward sustainable growth. 

“State Bank of India has internally approved the mega fund-raising plan and also obtained the approval from a global adjudicating authority on green bonds,” an executive close to the initiative told ET.

Rooftop solar energy company Amplus Energy Solutions Pvt. Ltd is in talks to raise as much as $100 million, said two people aware of the development.

“The company has been in talks with investors, both financial and strategic to raise around $50-100 million, which will help the company grow beyond its current portfolio of under 100 megawatts (MW) of distributed generation assets,” one of the two people cited above said on the condition of anonymity as he is not authorized to talk to reporters.

Finance Ministry approves four FDI proposals including that of AMP Solar India

The finance ministry today said it has cleared four proposals, including that of AMP Solar India, entailing foreign direct investment of Rs 503.40 crore in the last two months.

"During the period July 1, 2017 to August 31, 2017, the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) has disposed of six FDI proposals aggregating to foreign investment of Rs 503.40 crore," the finance ministry said in a statement.

AMP Solar India Pvt Ltd alone will bring investment of Rs 500 crore.

Solar power generation plant under trial at Kolkata airport

A Rs 88-crore solar power generation plant that is under trial at Kolkata airport is set to propel it ahead of its peers in the country . Once it connects to the CESC grid, it will be the largest source of alternative energy in Kolkata.

Speaking to TOI, Kolkata airport director Atul Dikshit said the solar-harvesting facility was undergoing tests before pushing power into the CESC grid. China's mono-crystalline solar cells and modules firm to begin construction of Indian plant

China's mono-crystalline solar cells and modules Longi Green Energy Technology will start building its Rs 1,500 crore Indian plant by the end of this year, said a senior official of its Indian subsidiary Lerri Solar Technology India. 

"We are planning to begin construction of the Indian plant by this December. It will take around one-and-a-half years to start commercial production," said Rahul Kapil, Vice President-Operations and Director.

Scientists develop new device can turn heat energy to fuel

Scientists have developed a device that could turn the heat generated by electronics into a usable fuel source, an advance that may help save energy.

The device is a multicomponent, multi layered composite material called a van der Waals Schottky diode, said researchers at Washington State University (WSU) in the US.

It converts heat into electricity up to three times more efficiently than silicon - a semiconductor material widely used in the electronics industry, they said.

Climate Change: India working up blueprint to implement NDCs

Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan today said India is developing a blueprint for implementing its Nationally Determined Contributions on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Hydro generation grew 2.14 per cent in July as reservoir storage levels dip to 51 per cent

India’s hydro power generation grew 2.14 per cent to 15.41 Billion Units (BU) in the month of July as compared to 15.08 BUs in the corresponding month last year, fresh data from Central Electricity Authority (CEA) shows. Hydro generation saw a growth of only 1.73 per cent in July 2016 as compared with the growth of 8.2 per cent in July 2015.

India issues new specifications for solar power modules

India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued an order for new set of standard specifications for solar Photo-Voltaic (PV) modules which will come into force after one year from the date of their notification on Wednesday.

”This Order may be called the Solar Photovoltaics, Systems, Devices and Components Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2017. It shall come into force on the expiry of one year from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette,” the ministry's notification said.

ABB India wins order to install solar inverters at 750 railway stations

ABB India, the local arm of the Swedish-Swiss engineering giant ABB, today announced it will provide solar inverters to 750 railway stations in north India to reduce dependence on traditional sources of energy. The stations are located in the busy northern Indian part of the network, one of the most used railway corridors in the world. 

"ABB solar inverters for this project vary between 5kW to 50kW in performance depending on the size of the station. They will be part of the solar installations being set up by Azure Power," the company said in a statement.

India bars states from independently exiting, modifying solar projects

India has barred state authorities from unilaterally cancelling or modifying solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) after six state governments in last two months pushed developers to lower tariffs, threatening to derail projects worth $7.5 billion.

Narendra Modi's government aims to raise solar power generation capacity nearly 30 times to 100 gigawatts (GW) by 2022. The capacity has already more than tripled in three years to more than 12 GW.

UK-based firms to invest Rs.1,500 cr in waste-to-energy projects in South

GJ Nature Care & Energy (GJNCE) and GJ Eco Power (GJEP), two UK-based firms, are planning to invest close to ₹1,500 crore over a period of five years in waste-to-energy projects across South Indian cities.

GJNCE has won a global bid for a waste-to-energy project in Kochi under DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer) at an estimated outlay of ₹300 crore.
