Ceiling tariff in wind energy tenders to go

In a move that could revive participation in wind bidding in a big way, the ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) plans to stop imposing ceiling tariffs on wind tenders, according to sources close to the development. Recent wind and solar auctions conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), an arm of MNRE, have all set ‘ceiling tariffs’ above which bids are not accepted. Punjab pushes for extension of deadline for installation of FGDs at power plants

The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has recommended to the central authorities to extend the deadline for the installation of fuel gas desulphurization(FGD) units at the thermal power plants in the state. The deadline for the same expired on December 31, but none of the five thermal power plants in the state have so far been able to comply with the directives. Maharashtra: BMC's hydro power plant to run e-buses, light up streets

The BMC will soon undertake the hydro-electric power generation project at Middle Vaitarna dam to provide 25 mega watt (MW) of 'clean energy' to run electric buses and light up streetlights in the island city, said civic chief Praveen Pardeshi. The state government has already approved the project and tenders will be floated soon. Indian Railways to launch Hydrogen-powered train

India Railways is working on development of a Hydrogen-powered suburban train and has floated an Expression of Interest for industry participation, rail minister Piyush Goyal said. “Hydrogen is planned to be sourced from industry in India. Hydrogen production is not planned by Indian Railways. The decision on deployment of hydrogen-propelled trains for long-distance routes will be based on the development of the technology,” Goyal said in a written reply in Parliament. Bescom sets up 80 electric vehicle charging stations

The city’s long wait for charging infrastructure for electric vehicles may end soon. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) is planning to throw open 80 EV charging stations next week. Senior Bescom officials said the proposal to inaugurate the stations has been sent to Chief Minister B.S. Pollution regulator threatens to shut 14 thermal plants over emission norms

Taking a strict view of thermal power stations’ failure to meet emission standards, the Central Pollution Control Board (CBCB) has issued warnings to 14 plants across six states of the country. In a notice dated January 31, a day before Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hinted in her Budget 2020 speech that coal-fired power stations failing to meet standards might be shut down, the pollution watchdog has asked the operators of these 14 thermal stations to respond within 15 days why they should not be closed down. India just about stays on course for green economy

India’s annual budget, announced on February 1, was long on intentions to move towards a green economy, but short on specifics. Renewable energy: 7592 MW commissioned in first 9 months of FY 2019-20

Himachal aims to increase forest cover by 30%

The Himachal Pradesh Government is aiming to increase its forest area by 30 per cent by 2030 and to achieve this goal initiatives have been taken up, an official said on Tuesday. Tata Power to set up 50 charging stations for electric vehicles in NCR

Tata Power has joined hands with EV cab operator Prakriti E-Mobility to set up 50 charging stations for electric vehicles in a phased manner. Carbon Emissions by India’s Steel Sector to Triple by 2050

India’s steel industry is set to more than triple its carbon footprint by 2050 as demand for the metal in the world’s second-biggest producer soars.
