Parliamentary panel pulls up MNRE for missing renewable energy targets over yearsThe Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy has pulled up the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for failing to meet the targets for capacity addition over years. The failure could hamper the efforts at meeting the larger national target of reaching 175 Gigawatt (GW) capacity by 2022, it has said. The ministry could achieve only 11,319 Megawatt (Mw) of grid-connected RE capacity addition against a target of 16,560 Mw in 2016-17. Tata Motors Wins EESL Tender; To Deploy Tigor EVs for UGVCL in GujaratTata Motors, a USD 44 billion company, on Thursday said that it has won a tender from state-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) to supply its Tigor Electric Vehicles (EVs) to state power distribution company Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. 300% spike in lithium battery imports; value too up from $384 million to $1.2 billionA burgeoning cell phone industry has pushed India’s lithium battery imports by 300% in 2018-19 compared to 2016-17, while the electric vehicle (EV) market is expected to further boost this in the next few years. Official data on the import of lithium batteries shows that imports jumped to 71.2 crore units worth $1.2 billion in 2018-19 from just 17.5 crore units worth $384 million in 2016-17.
