India Inc couldn’t-care-less attitude about forests worrying, says report

Does India Inc care about the country’s forests? A recent ‘CDP India Annual Report 2019’ indicates it doesn’t. No Indian company responded to CDP’s (Carbon Disclosure Project) questionnaire on forests, though many answered similar questionnaires on other issues such as renewable energy use and water. The questions on forests were aimed at ascertaining whether the companies measured the impact of their businesses on forests. “In 2019, 543 companies from 46 countries responded to CDP’s forests’ questionnaire. Govt plans 10,000 MW solar project

The state government is planning to set up a mega solar power project with an installed capacity of 10,000 MW in order to meet the increasing demand for power and to supply free, uninterrupted power to the agricultural sector. Coal India adheres to environmental, sustainable standards: CMD

Coal India Ltd (CIL) on Saturday said its coal producing subsidiaries follow environmental and sustainable standards but there could be "some stray cases" of lapses. Draft policy seeks lower taxes for LNG, CNG vehicles

In a bid to boost India’s gas economy, the ministry of petroleum and natural gas on Thursday released a draft city gas distribution policy, which could be adopted by states to facilitate speedy implementation of city gas distribution (CGD) networks and value-added services. Reduced road taxes and value-added tax (VAT) may also be in the offing for gas-driven vehicles. ENGIE to reduce share in renewable projects, sell 74% stake to Edelweiss

French energy major ENGIE will sell majority stake in solar power projects in India to Edelweiss Infrastructure Yield Plus (EIYP) and its portfolio company Sekura Energy. The company, which operates 1,500 megawatts (MW) of renewable capacity in India will sell 74 per cent stake in 12 solar power projects totaling 813 MW, it said in a statement. Bengaluru-based start-up Bounce, on Thursday, announced that it had raised an additional $105 million (₹746.33 crore) in its Series-D funding round. MNRE recommends imposition of basic customs duty on imported solar cells and modules

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has recommended to its commerce and finance counterparts to impose basic customs duty on the imports of solar cells and modules mainly from China.
