Nagpur: Electricity utility MSEDCL blocks Metro Rail’s solar power plan

Mahametro’s plan to meet 65% of Nagpur Metro Rail’s energy needs through solar power has received a jolt as state-run discom MSEDCL has refused to relax its norms for the project. Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has asked the two agencies to hold a meeting and find a way out. MERC has also told Mahametro to file its say justifying its case as being unique and requiring a special dispensation considering the intent and purpose of the solar roof top policy.

Ganga Clean Up: NGT Orders CBI Probe Against UP Jal Nigam

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday directed the CBI to probe alleged irregularities in the cleaning up of river Ganga by the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam.

Rajasthan lags behind neighbouring states in solar power projects

Rajasthan has lagged behind neighbours like Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat in new and renewable energy despite holding a huge potential in the sector. According to Union ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) data, Rajasthan has only 31 MW approved/sanctioned projects under Grid connected roof-top and small solar power plants programme. However, Madhya Pradesh has 115 MW projects followed by Gujarat (81.75 MW) and Haryana (75 MW).

The National Green Tribunal has directed inspection of 'kolhus' used for crushing sugarcane in Uttar Pradesh after a plea alleged that these "unregulated" units were major contributors to air and water pollution. Suzlon Energy set to sell stake in 130 megawatt projects

Suzlon Energy has divested 49% stake in solar power projects totalling 210 mw and is in advanced talks to sell stake in another 130 mw projects in a deal that the company aims to close before March, said Kirti Vagadia, group chief financial officer.
