India to generate 1,229 billion units of power in 2017-18 from thermal, hydro, nuclear sources

The government has set a target of generating 1,229.4 billion units in 2017-18 from thermal, hydro and nuclear sources along with imports from Bhutan, Central Electricity Authority data showed.

Heathrow Airport Targets Zero Carbon, Zero Waste by 2050

London’s Heathrow airport toady launched a sustainability strategy that, among other targets, includes using 100 percent renewable energy by April and operating a zero-carbon, zero-waste airport by 2050.

The government will bring out a new policy for the hydro power sector next fiscal to boost this clean source of energy, a senior official said on Monday. “We are working on a New Hydro Policy for quite sometime. South Delhi Corporation approves proposal to impose waste generation charges for construction and demolition waste

The south corporation has approved an proposal to impose waste generation charges from users for generating construction and demolition waste. The charge has been decided as per the C&D Waste Management Rules notified in 2016.

NGT sets 'zero discharge' deadline for Nitta Gelatin India Ltd

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued an order to Nitta Gelatin India Ltd (NGIL) to ensure zero discharge of chemical waste from its factory at Kathikudam in Thrissur district into the Chalakkudy River, in six months. NGIL has also been asked to remove all the sludge stored at Muthlamada in Palakkad as well as the waste stacked on the factory premises at Kathikudam near Chalakkudy within that time.

SDMC to set up waste-to-energy plant at Rs 351 crore

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) today said it plans to set up a waste-to- energy plant at Tehkhand here at a cost of Rs 351 crore.

The SDMC standing committee has approved the project under which 1,200 metric tonne of waste would be utilised to generate 15 mega watt power which would be sold at Rs 5.5 per unit to earn revenue of Rs 57.81 crore per year, it said.

Wind power tariff likely to go below Rs 4 per unit

After a sharp drop in solar tariff to Rs 2.97 per unit, the wind power rates may also touch a new low and fall below the Rs 4 per unit mark in an ongoing auction for 1,000 MW capacity.

The tariff-based competitive bidding is being conducted by the state-owned Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for wind power capacity totalling 1,000 MW for supply of power to non-windy states.
