Ray of hope as Andhra Pradesh starts clearing renewable dues this week

Ending months of impasse and uncertainty, the Andhra Pradesh government has started clearing arrears to renewable energy companies, providing partial succour to close to 5,000 MW of green energy projects. The projects have been battling amplified risks since chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy soon after taking power last year, decided to set up a committee to renegotiate contracts and stop outstanding dues. Delhi: Bin free areas, plantation to check air pollution among tasks outlined by NDMC in its 2020-21 budget

Making areas garbage bin-free, setting up 100 charging stations for electric cars besides an intensive plantation drive to mitigate air pollution are among the top tasks underlined by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in its 2020-21 budget. Punjab: State-owned thermal power plants miss deadline for FGD norms

Even as the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) had issued directives to the state-owned thermal power plants in the state to install the fuel gas desulphurization (FGD) units by December 31, to cut down on the sulphur emissions, both Ropar and Lehra Mohabatt power plants have missed out on the deadline. The CPCB had in April 2018 and then again on June 25, last year, directed PSPCL to install FDGs by December and cooling tower system by June 2022. Eden, Adani to invest Rs 2,072 crore in renewable power projects in Rajasthan

Eden Renewables and Adani group have proposed to invest Rs 2,072 crore in the renewable power sector and both the projects have been given 100% exemption from stamp duty and conversion charges under the new RIPS. As per the proposals, Eden Renewables will set up 300 MW solar energy project with an investment of Rs 1,572 Cr in the 3716 bigha. MNRE issues draft policy for round-the-clock supply of bundled renewable power

The ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) has proposed a draft policy for the supply of Round-The-Clock (RTC) power to discoms which would be a mix of renewable energy and electricity generated in coal-based plants. The idea is to address the biggest issue with large scale uptake of clean energy – intermittency. India identifies offshore wind energy potential of 70,000 MW along Gujarat, TN coasts

India has an estimated offshore wind energy potential to generate around 70,000 Megawatt (Mw) power, most of that identified in coastal Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, according to the ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE). “Initial studies indicate offshore wind energy potential of about 70 Gigawatt (GW) within the identified zones in the coasts of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu only,” the ministry told the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy. Auto industry yet to submit study to Niti Aayog on EV transition

The automobile industry is yet to submit its report on road map to transition two- and three-wheelers to full electric vehicles, according to a senior government official. At a meeting with industry representatives in June last year, the Niti Aayog had asked the industry to come back within two weeks with concrete steps towards the transition but manufacturers had stated they would need a minimum of four months to work on the same. Tata Motors delay in BSVI compliance results in a decline in sales for 14 months in a row

Tata Motors reported a 13% decline in its December domestic sales volumes, failing to bring in any year-end cheer. The auto manufacturer last reported a rise in domestic sales in October 2018. Tata Motors has not yet transitioned to BSVI vehicles which will turn mandatory in April 2020. Its peers like Maruti Suzuki already have several models in the market. States on track to lift BPL people: Niti

Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram are among the states, which are close to taking the the percentage of people living below the poverty line to 10.95 per cent by 2030. India has installed 84 GW of renewable energy capacity so far: MNRE

India's renewable energy (RE) capacity had crossed 84 gigawatt (GW) mark by the end of November this year, fresh data released by the ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) showed. "A total of 6083.48 MW of renewable energy capacity has been added during the year 2019-2020, taking the cumulative installed RE capacity to 84.39 GW as on November 2019," said the monthly report released by MNRE. Oil ministry wants cut in GST on CNG vehicles to 5%

The oil ministry has proposed reducing the goods and services tax on compressed natural gas (CNG)-driven vehicles to 5% — at par with electric vehicles — from the current 28% to help the government’s drive to popularise gas vehicles. This could mean more than 20% reduction in prices of CNG vehicles. Railway gives push to green energy projects

The Railways is accelerating its efforts to install and use renewable energy as part of its objective to reduce carbon footprint and reduce its power costs. It aims to source about 1,000 MW of solar power and about 200 MW of wind power by 2021-22. Currently, it consumes 200 MW of clean energy. Chandigarh: Centre releases Rs 5 crore for solar subsidy

The Union government has released Rs 5 crore to the UT administration that will be used to transfer solar subsidy to residents, who had installed solar plants on their rooftops. In the new year, the UT administration will transfer subsidy amount in the account of eligible beneficiaries. Suzuki JV to invest ₹3,715 crore in second phase of battery venture

Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corp. (SMC), Toshiba Corp. and Denso Corp. will jointly invest ₹3,715 crore in the second phase of their battery venture in Gujarat’s Hansalpur, a confidential company presentation showed. Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), will be setting up public charging infrastructure as part of the National Electric Mobility Programme. Kerala: KSRTC issues fresh tenders for 250 non-AC electric buses

In another attempt towards e-mobility, KSRTC has invited tenders to hire electricity-powered buses for its fleet. As many 250 non-AC buses will be hired by KSRTC for intercity operations for 10 years. Different from previous bids, KSRTC has invited three different tenders for each zone — Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode.
