The host of food and drink company members of the United Kingdom’s (UK’s) Food and Drink Federation (FDF) have developed a series of new sustainability commitments. The newly-released “Ambition 2025” document builds on the group’s previous “Five-Fold Environmental Ambition” and includes goals related to climate change, food waste, packaging, water, transport, supply chains and natural capital, as well as case studies highlighting some of their members’ best practices.

Delhi air less polluted this October

 Even though the national capital continues to choke on smog and dust, experts say its air quality this October has improved a little, as compared to last year.

NTPC to set up floating solar plant

NTPC Kayamkulam will install a floating solar photovoltaic power plant of 100 kWp (kilowatt peak) on the premises of the thermal power plant there. The project has received approval and the work will start soon.

Reforms to help halve discom losses by fiscal 2019

CRISIL estimates that the aggregate gap or loss, of distribution companies (discoms) of 15 states that joined the Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojna (UDAY), would more than halve to 28 paise per unit by fiscal 2019 compared with 64 paise in fiscal 2016.

Waste-to-energy pilot project to start in December

The German government's nodal agency, Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit's (GIZ), that will be converting waste to energy here as a pilot project in the country, will start the project by this year-end. To make Tirumala a "Zero Carbon Emission Zone", Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD) is mulling introduce electrical buses soon.

The TTD executive officer D Sambasiva Rao said that the battery cars are of great use to transport the aged and specially abled pilgrims in Tirumala

MNRE to seek cabinet nod to classify hydro power as renewable energy

New and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday that his ministry will seek cabinet approval to reclassify large hydro power plants in the renewable category to help India achieve renewable power capacity of 230 gigawatt (GW) by 2022.

Railways to implement green corridor; 175 km long track made waste discharge free

Aiming at making rail tracks on its network as green corridor, Railways Wednesday announced that 175-km long line was made waste discharge free zone as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The 141-km-long Okha-Kanalus route and the 34-km-long Porbandar-Wansjaliya sections in Gujarat have now become the green train corridors as all trains passing on these lines are now equipped with bio-toilets. Chinese wind turbine-maker Envision eyes India

Chinese wind-turbine manufacturer Envision Energy wants to enter the Indian market. The company has applied to the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), the certifying body, for approval to sell its 2 MW machines.

Canadian Solar buys 49% each in 2 Suzlon units

Canadian Solar, one of the biggest solar power companies in the world, made its first investment in India's alternative energy sector by acquiring 49% stake each in two projects of Suzlon Energy in Telangana for an aggregate amount of Rs 26.4 crore. The Nasdaq-listed company, with a market capitalisation of $880 million, has the option to buy the rest of the 51% stake in each of Suzlon's 15-megawatt projects one year after they turn commercially operational.

Hartek Power bags solar EPC orders for 460 MW in H1 FY17

Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) company Hartek Power today said it has bagged 460-MW solar orders in the first half of the current financial year.

The 460-MW solar EPC orders secured by the firm include 16 substation projects of up to 132 KV spread across six states -- Punjab, Bihar, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, the company said in a statement.

Chandigarh, Himachal, Uttarakhand to get cheapest power, Gujarat to costliest

Residents of Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry and Uttarakhand will be able to buy solar power at Rs 3 per unit – the lowest tariff in India – from panels installed on their rooftops without having to shell out a penny.
