Women's group set up solar panel making unit in Maha village - The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has provided technical support for the project

Wardha: A women's self-help group has set up a solar panel manufacturing unit at a village here in Maharashtra, as part of a project aimed at encouraging women to take up jobs and sustain their livelihood, officials said. Talking to on Thursday, Wardha Zilla Parishad's Chief Executive Officer Dr Sachin Ombase claimed it to be the first such unit set up by a rural women's self-help group in the state. Nel says 'green' hydrogen could be as cheap as fossil alternative by 2025

OSLO, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Norway’s Nel, a maker of zero-emission hydrogen technology, will expand its operations in 2021 in order to make its products more cost competitive, leading to a significant loss for the year, it said on Thursday. Hydrogen, currently mainly used in oil refining and to produce ammonia for fertilisers, is lauded as a potential future green fuel of choice as it is free from greenhouse gas emissions when it burns. Peak power demand hits record 185.82GW hinting at economic revival

India’s electricity demand touched a record 185.82 gigawatts (GW) on Wednesday morning, crossing the previous record of 182.88GW witnessed on 30 December. The development hints at a recovery in economic activity after massive disruptions in the wake of the covid crisis. Zypp plans 5k battery swapping stations in 100 cities in 3 years

New Delhi: The electric vehicle startup Zypp plans to set up 5,000 battery swapping stations for two-wheelers and three-wheelers across the nation over the next three years. The last-mile delivery company, now operational in six cities, has set up 50 battery swapping stations across Delhi NCR, and Jaipur. Ola partners with Siemens for electric vehicles manufacturing facility

Ride-hailing major Ola on Wednesday said it has partnered with Siemens to leverage the latter's technology at its upcoming electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. In December, Ola had announced inking an agreement with the Tamil Nadu government to invest Rs 2,400 crore for setting up its first electric scooter factory in the state. "Ola's factory will be built on Industry 4.0 principles and will be the most advanced manufacturing facility in the country. JAIPUR: Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd (RRECL) has written to the energy department on how the draft norms of Rajasthan Energy Regulatory Commission (RERC) are not only going to hurt rooftop solar but also put at the risk the sanctity of government policy. SECI Payouts to Solar, Wind Developers up Slightly at ₹3.85 Billion in November 2020

The Solar energy Corporation of India (SECI) paid nearly ₹3.85 billion (~$52.6 million) to solar and wind developers in November 2020, which amounted to over 60% of the total amount disbursed by the agency during the month. According to data released by the nodal agency, it had paid out over ₹6.35 billion (~$86.8 million) during the month towards subsidies, solar and wind power purchases, duty, and tax reimbursements, payments for services, among other fees and charges. Andhra Pradesh releases feasibility report for solar project sites under RE export policy

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh has released feasibility reports of five project sites for setting up of ultra-mega solar power parks under its renewable energy export policy announced in July last year. It had identified seven such sites with a total capacity of 17,800 megawatt (MW) under its new policy. These were at Kadiri, Obuladevucheruvu (ODC), Ralla Anantapur, Badvel, Kalasapadu, Owk, and Kolimigundla. Assam: Solar storages for Covid-19 vaccines to be tested during polio drive on January 31

GUWAHATI: The efficiency of solar vaccine storages for preserving Covid vaccines in the most inaccessible locations of Assam will be tested during the nationwide polio vaccination drive on January 31. Of the 32 solar vaccine stores that have been developed in the hilly terrain and chars (sand bars) in the riverine areas of the state, 25 have been installed in 2019-20. India’s Cochin International Airport commissions floating solar power plant

India’s Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has commissioned a floating solar power plant with a capacity of 452KWh.

The new installation will enable the airport to sustain on green energy.

CIAL stated that the airport’s total installed capacity has now reached 40MWp, which will support the airport to generate nearly 160,000 units of power a day.

The airport currently consumes around 130,000 units on a daily basis.

West Bengal DISCOM’s PSA with SECI for 100 MW of Solar-Wind Hybrid Power Approved

The West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission (WBERC) approved the power sale agreement (PSA) executed between India Power Corporation Limited (IPCL) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for the purchase of 100 MW solar-wind hybrid power. The PSA was approved for a tariff of ?2.69 (~$0.036)/kWh with a trading margin of ?0.07 (~$0.0009)/kWh. The Commission also directed IPCL to comply with the applicable laws regarding scheduling. It asked IPCL to ensure that any deviation should be within the acceptable limits under the deviation settlement mechanism (DSM).

Japan uses ‘environmental’ fund to finance Vietnamese coal plant

A Japanese state-owned bank is using a green fund to finance a Vietnamese coal power plant, sparking accusations of “egregious greenwashing”.

The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) announced last month it would invest $636 million in the controversial Vung Ang 2 project, through its Growth Investment Facility.

In a bid to provide relief to renewable power producers facing delays in project commissioning due to reasons beyond their control, the government has allowed solar and wind-based generation projects to avail transmission charge waivers even if they fail to set up their plants within June 30, 2023 — the deadline set for projects to receive the benefit.
