Denmark to create world's first energy island in the North Sea

COPENHAGEN: Denmark approved a plan on Thursday to build the world's first energy island in the North Sea that will produce and store enough green energy to cover the electricity needs of 3 million European households.

The artificial island, which in its initial phase will be the size of 18 football fields, will be linked to hundreds of offshore wind turbines and will supply both power to households and green hydrogen for use in shipping, aviation, industry and heavy transport.

Coke, Pepsi, Bisleri fined for violating plastic waste disposal rules

Chennai/Delhi: The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has fined beverage makers Coke and Pepsi and bottled water maker Biseri for violating filing statutory returns to government bodies regarding the collecting and disposal of plastic waste.
While Bisleri has been penalised Rs 10.75 crore, Pepsico India Holdings will have to pay Rs 8.7 crore and Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages has been asked to pay Rs 50.66 crore fine. All companies have been granted a timeframe of 15 days to remit the penalty and fulfil the rules that have been violated.

Premier Energies to set up Rs 483 crore solar cell facility in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Premier Energies, a city-based leading Solar PV Cells and Module manufacturing company, is setting up a new state-of-the-art facility at E -City here at an investment of Rs 483 crore. The Greenfield Project, spread across 25 acres, is slated to triple Premier Energys current capacity.

The plant will produce 1.5 GW of solar cells and modules against the current capacity of 500 MW, a company press release said.

It is expected to be commissioned in the next two months.

Virescent assigned provisional ‘AAA’ rating for its renewable energy InvIT

NEW DELHI: CRISIL NSE -0.77 % has assigned a provisional 'AAA/Stable' rating for the bank loan facilities of Virescent Renewable Energy Trust (VRET). The 'AAA/Stable' rating is the highest provisional rating that CRISIL assigns.

"VRET, the InvIT proposed to be launched by KKR-backed Indian renewable energy platform Virescent Infrastructure, has received a 'AAA/Stable' provisional rating for its bank loan facilities from CRISIL, an S&P company," a Virescent Infrastructure statement said.

eBikeGo to begin EV battery recycling: Exploring partnerships with e-waste management entities

eBikeGo, an electric mobility solutions provider, has stated that it is kickstarting a drive to recycle Lithium batteries of its electric vehicles. These recycled batteries are in the beginning or middle of their lifecycle. EV batteries are taken out of the vehicle when their capacity reduces by about 25%. So, if a 1000 wh battery starts storing only 750 wh, then it is taken out of EV. It can then be used in solar plants and other applications.

Absolut hits recycled materials target four years early

Late last year, Absolut announced that production of its Vodka products will be fossil-fuel-free by 2025, as part of a wider ambition to become carbon-neutral by 2030 without relying on offset use.

The company is also aiming to apply eco-design principles to reduce lifecycle emissions from 50% of its projects by 2021 and 100% of new projects by 2022.

Part of this strategy also included an aim to use 50% recycled content in packaging by 2025, an ambition that has been met for glass bottles.

DDA approves green development policy draft

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Wednesday approved the draft ‘Green Development Area (GDA) Policy’ to provide an integrated framework for development of land falling in designated green belts and low-density residential areas according to the Master Plan for Delhi 2021.

EX onboards 3rd strategic investor in gas exchange IGX

New Delhi: The country's largest electricity exchange, the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), has entered into a strategic partnership with a third investor for its new platform.

Gas utility GAIL has picked up 5 per cent equity stake in the Indian Gas Exchange (IGX), marking it the third investor to participate in the platform.

On January 22, Adani Total Gas and Torrent Gas also acquired 5 per cent equity stake each.

IGX's participation with GAIL is expected to lead to robust value addition in development of the gas markets in the country.

Basic customs duty on solar imports still on the cards: Ministry of New and Renewable Energy

Even though Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman did not mention any import restrictions on solar cells and modules to boost the domestic manufacturers, the ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) does not rule out the imposition of basic customs duty (BCD) on such items. Addressing the media about the implications of the budget on the renewable sector, MNRE secretary Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi said that “no way we can conclude that BCD will not take place”.

Rajasthan SEC recommends 1.18 lakh crore investment in renewable energy sector

Amp Energy India commissions solar project for L&T Metro Rail in Hyderabad

New Delhi: Amp Energy India on Monday mentioned it has commissioned one of many largest behind-the-meter solar tasks for L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd. The metro rail is a public-private partnership (PPP) project between the Telangana authorities and infrastructure firm Larsen & Toubro Ltd.

Renewable energy firms cry foul as state seeks to renege on pact

New Delhi: India’s federal government has stepped in to mediate a dispute between the state of Gujarat and solar power developers over the province’s plan to backtrack on bids for a 700 megawatt project because of high tariffs and invite fresh ones.

“Certainly it is creating some disturbance in the renewable energy market,” Amitesh Kumar Sinha, joint secretary at the ministry told reporters in New Delhi about the initial discussion the ministry has had with the coastal state. “We will take up this issue further. We’ll handle it.”

Supreme Court Stops E-Rickshaw Registration In India

The EV evolution has taken a rather interesting turn in India. Kanishk Sinha, a Kolkata based lawyer who is a patentee for registration of electric vehicles across India for 20 years is claiming to be the only facilitator who can get electric vehicles registered in India. As per his claim, any individual state or union territory doesn't have the rights to directly register any battery operated electric vehicle in their province. Tender process for leasing e-buses cancelled for the third time

For the third time in a row, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has cancelled the tender to lease and operate electric buses under the Centre’s FAME II Scheme (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles in India). The Corporation cited high operational costs, the same reason given when the tenders were cancelled in the past.

According to sources, the lowest bidder had quoted ₹65 per km as operational cost payable by the BMTC to the private party to lease buses.
