Solar power pumps ensure daily irrigation for 86,000 farmers in Maharashtra

Nagpur: To achieve the aim of installing one lakh solar agricultural pumps, an impetus has been given to the Chief Minister’s Solar Agricultural Pump Scheme to provide day-time power supply to farmers for irrigation.

According to a press release by MSEDCL, a total of 85,963 farmers in the state have been given 3, 5 and 7.5 horse power solar agricultural pumps. “All these farmers have been provided uninterrupted power supply during the day and have also been freed from electricity bills,” the release stated.

SSE, TotalEnergies to offer companies shorter renewable power contracts from Seagreen

LONDON, Aug 2 (Reuters) - SSE (SSE.L) and TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) will later this year launch tenders offering corporate customers power from their Seagreen offshore wind project for five-year terms, around half the length of most renewable power purchase agreements.

Renewable power purchase agreements (PPAs) are an increasingly common way for large companies to secure clean energy and meet their climate targets, but typically have durations of 10 years or more.

China, India miss U.N. deadline to update emissions targets

China and India have missed a U.N. deadline to submit fresh plans for cutting their greenhouse gas emissions in time for the global body to include their pledges in a report for governments at this year’s global climate summit, according to officials.

The world’s two most populous countries are among dozens that failed to provide an update on their targets for curbing the release of planet-warming gases to the U.N. climate change agency by July 31, they said on July 31.

ADB, Citi, HSBC, Prudential hatch plan for Asian coal-fired closures -sources

LONDON/MELBOURNE, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Financial firms including British insurer Prudential, lenders Citi and HSBC and BlackRock Real Assets are devising plans to speed the closure of Asia's coal-fired power plants in order to lower the biggest source of carbon emissions, five people with knowledge of the initiative said.

Electric vehicles (EVs) could constitute about 25 per cent of the total passenger vehicle sales at Tata Motors “in the medium to long term”, said the company on Friday, as it seeks to ride the electrification trend in the country.

CESL signs deal with HPCL for EV charging points in metro cities across India

State-run Convergence Energy Services Ltd has signed agreement with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd for setting up of EV charging points in metro cities across India.

The government may consider lowering import duty along with offering other sops to Tesla, but for that, the electric vehicle major would have to invest in setting up manufacturing facility in the country.

NGT joint panel seeks 26L compensation from HPCL

The joint committee constituted by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) proposed an environmental compensation of 26 lakh against the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) for damages caused during the fire mishap on May 25.
