Global energy investments dip 8% in 2015, says IEA

The International Energy Agency (IEA) on Wednesday said global energy investments fell by 8% to $1.8 trillion in 2015.

The fall was primarily due to the drop in oil and gas upstream sector even as investments were robust in green energy sources, electricity networks and energy efficiency. The global energy investments were to the tune of $2 trillion in 2014.

Adding hydro can take India's clean power to 225 GW by 2022

Government is considering reclassifying large hydro power plants as renewable projects, Power Minster Piyush Goyal said today, adding that it can help India achieve clean power capacity of 225 GW by 2022. 

Removing the distinction between small project (up to 25 MW) and large hydro project can help India projecting that its installed renewable energy capacity would be 225 GW by 2022.

IBC Solar signs 22.5 MW EPC contract in India

German EPC specialist IBC Solar has signed a sixth EPC contract in India that will increase its PV portfolio in the solar-hungry nation to more than 50 MW.

The contract is for a 22.5 MW solar farm located near Phalodi in the state of Rajasthan. IBC Solar will commence construction in October, and expects to have the solar plant commissioned by April next year.

Metro to set up rooftop solar panels at 8 stations

Going green in its second year of operations, Jaipur Metro has decided to set up rooftop solar panels at eight elevated stations on its 9.25-km-long corridor between Mansarovar and Chandpole.
The power generated by 200-kWp 'Rooftop Solar Power Plant' will be used to meet the requirements at the stations and would reduce its dependence on non-renewable sources.

Prices of LED bulbs drop to Rs 38

Prices of LED bulbs being distributed by state-run Energy Efficient Services Ltd (EESL) under a government programme have fallen to one-tenth of their rates two years ago.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), an arm of Tata Power , has completed 100 percent share purchase in Welspun Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd (WREPL) and its subsidiaries.
