Green Hydrogen central to energy transition and fight against climate change

Green hydrogen, together with renewable energy, is central to India’s energy transition and the global effort to tackle climate change.

Small solar power projects: 2,605 applications for one-time exit

Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has received 2,605 applications for the one-time exit option offered by the state-run power utility to small-scale solar power developers. These applications represent solar power projects with the aggregate generation capacity of 1,546.45MW.

However, 1,400 applicants with the cumulative capacity of 955MW have not applied for the exit option. They will continue to set up solar projects in Gujarat under the state’s policy for the development of small-scale distributed solar projects (SSDSP-2019), said sources aware of the developments.

India, UK agree investment boost at Economic and Financial Dialogue

New steps to tackle climate change and boost investment were announced on Thursday at the 11th India-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD).

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak, who met virtually for the annual summit, signed off a USD 1.2-billion package of public and private investment in green projects and renewable energy to boost India's green growth ambitions.

Tariffs for pure wind projects trend downwards as ReNew, Sembcorp, Evergreen discover ₹2.69

In a positive development for the struggling wind energy industry, tariffs for pure wind projects trended downwards as ReNew Power, Sembcorp, Evergreen Power, Adani, and Azure Power emerged winners in Solar Energy Corporation of India's (SECI) 1200 megawatt (MW) tranche XI tender.

ReNew (300 MW), Sembcorp's wholly-owned subsidiary Green Wind Infra Energy (180 MW), and Evergreen's Anupavan Renewables (150 MW) won their bids at ₹2.69 per unit, while 450 MW went to Adani at ₹2.70.

Azure was allotted the remaining 120 MW at ₹2.70, even though they had bid for 300 MW.

CESL launches electric two-wheeler sales scheme in Kerala

Draft open access norms can be a tailwind for new renewable projects: CRISIL

The Draft Electricity (promoting renewable energy through Green Energy Open Access) Rules, 2021, announced by the Ministry of Power, if implemented, could improve the certainty of cash flows for new renewable energy projects coming up through this route, said CRISIL Ratings on Thursday.

CESL launches scheme for sale of electric two-wheelers in Kerala

State-run Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL) on Wednesday launched a scheme for the sale of two-wheeled electric vehicles (EVs) for Kerala government employees.

“The programme is custom-designed for employees of the Government of Kerala, and vehicles are made available by CESL through its relationship with vehicle manufacturers," a CESL statement said.

Solar developers step up panel imports as removal of safeguard duty cuts costs

Solar panel prices that rose consistently over the last one year due to various constraints in the supply chain have seen a dip of around Rs 2.5 per Watt peak or up to 15% after the safeguard duty on imports ended on July 31.

Tatas against any cut in EV import duty for Tesla

The Tata Group, which leads the electric car market in India, has opposed a cut in import duty on electric cars — as demanded by Elon Musk and his company Tesla — saying that the move “goes contrary” to the government’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicle) policy, which seeks localisation and indigenisation of green vehicles.

It'll be mandatory for automakers to offer biofuel vehicles in 6 months'

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said India will make it mandatory for auto manufacturers to offer vehicles running 100 per cent on bio-fuels in the next six months.

Such a move will be cost-effective for consumers, who are hassled by the high petrol prices, the minister said, pointing out that a litre of bioethanol costs Rs 65 as against Rs 110 paid for petrol. The alternative fuel is also less polluting and saves forex.

Power consumers, especially those from housing societies in Navi Mumbai and Thane, have demanded that MSEDCL avail of Central subsidy up to 40% on solar rooftop panel installations, which it can pass on to consumers who can then save Rs 800-2,400 in bills every month.

REC seeks shareholders nod to raise up to Rs 85K cr via bonds, debentures

State-owned REC will seek shareholders' approval to raise up to Rs 85,000 crore through issuance of non-convertible bonds or debentures next month.

The funds would be raised on private placement basis in one or more tranches, according to the notice for 52nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on September 24, 2021.

EV makers should give 'significant discount' to buyers who have scrapped old cars, says Gadkari

Electric vehicle manufacturers should offer significant discount to buyers who have scrapped their old cars that were powered by internal combustion engines, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday.

Reliance looks to acquire Europe’s largest solar panel manufacturer

Reliance Industries is close to acquiring Europe’s largest solar panel manufacturer, REC Group. The Mukesh Ambani-helmed company is likely to acquire the company for $1-1.2 billion from China National Chemical Corp (ChemChina). RIL that has big plans for green energy will be able to access top-notch technology and global manufacturing capabilities through the deal.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras is developing a new model to tackle electronic wastes (e-waste) by linking stakeholders in the formal and informal economy.

Odisha approves Electric Vehicle Policy 2021, targets 20% EVs by 2025
