Andhra Pradesh: IoT devices to help MSMEs in state save big on power

The state energy department, in coordination with the department of industries, is planning to roll out an Internet of Things (IoT) project for all micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the state. The IoT device, developed by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad, has been tested and has proven to be able to save 10,000 to 11,000 units of power per annum.

Take back draft Electricity Amendment Bill, engineers' body urges PM

An Uttar Pradesh power engineers' association has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take back the draft Electricity Amendment Bill, terming it anti-consumer. UP Rajya Vidyut Parishad Abhiyanta Sangh chief V P Singh told reporters that the proposed legislation has been opposed by several states as it is anti-consumer, especially against farmers and the industry.

Maharashtra freezes 3 Chinese projects worth Rs 5,000 crore

The Maha Vikas Aghadi government has put the three agreements signed with Chinese companies at the recent Magnetic Maharashtra 2.0 investor meet on hold. The proposed investments total over Rs 5,000 crore.

“The decision has been taken in consultation with the Union government. These were signed prior (to the killing of 20 Indian soldiers on the Indo-China border). Theni district has bagged the Skoch Gold Award, a national award for water management and water conservation practices, by beating 130 other districts countrywide. District collector Pallavi M Baldev said a lot of efforts went into conserving water bodies and natural resources in the district. Haryana axes two power sector contracts with Chinese companies

The Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government in Haryana has cancelled contracts with Chinese companies for installing pollution control equipment worth Rs 780 crore at two of its thermal power facilities, in the wake of heightened tension between the two neighbours.

The contracts had been awarded by the Haryana Power Generation Corp Ltd (HPGCL) through global tendering for the installation of the equipment in the plants in Yamunanagar and Hisar towns.

Power discom TPDDL prevented over 1.5 lakh manual meter-reading visits of its staff during the lockdown, safeguarding them and the consumers from possible coronavirus exposure, through around two lakh smart meters installed within its distribution area, a company spokesperson said on Sunday. The smart meters helped raise over 3.5 lakh electricity bills based on actual readings, instead of provisional ones, during the lockdown months of April-May and prevented over 1.5 lakh visits to consumer premises, he said.

IFC invests $10m in Egypt's Globaltronics to enhance energy efficiency

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, will invest up to $10m in local Egyptian company, Globaltronics.

The funding will go towards helping Globaltronics, which manufactures electricity measurement solutions, expand on the installation of digital prepaid and smart electricity meters for households.

OCBC aims for $25b of sustainable financing by 2025

OCBC Bank has set a new goal of $25 billion for its sustainable finance portfolio by 2025 after surpassing its initial $10 billion target in the first quarter - two years ahead of schedule.

MNRE forms project development cell to attract investment in green energy

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has set up a Project Development Cell (PDC) to attract more investments into the sector that will help meet its 175 GW target for green energy.

Industry experts said the new body might have been created in the wake of tensions with China, which supplies the bulk of the solar energy equipment used in Indian projects.

SC rejects appeal on renewable energy certificates price revision

The Supreme Court rejected an appeal by a renewable energy association that sought a stay order on the revision of prices of renewable energy certificates (REC).

A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra heard the matter on June 16 through an online hearing and dismissed the petition to stop the price revision by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), which proposed to slash the minimum price of RECs from Rs 1,000 to zero.

Uttar Pradesh to get 600-MW ultra-mega renewable energy park

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the setting up of an ultra mega renewable energy park with an investment of Rs 2,400 crore in the state.

The joint project will be set up by the Uttar Pradesh Non-Conventional Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) and Tehri Hydro Development Corporation of India (THDC).

Ten U.K. companies, several with ties to the textiles industry, have received more than $1.5 million in support of their efforts to produce innovative, sustainable products.

The power ministry may consider at least a six-month extension beyond December 2022 for transmission charges waiver to solar and wind projects. “The Ministry may consider extending the ISTS waiver for renewable energy projects by at least six months,” said the power minister R.K.
