Garment washing research highlights wool’s eco-credentials

WOOLLEN garments are washed less frequently than clothes made from synthetics, cotton and cellulosic fibres, according to an Australian Wool Innovation-funded scientific study.

The garments made from wool therefore have the least environmental impact of all these fibres during the ‘use phase’ of a garment’s life cycle, AWI said.

The study’s report published last September in the peer-reviewed journal Sustainability, found that garments made from different fibres are cleaned by consumers in different ways and therefore have significantly different environmental impacts... Read more..

Business giants' climate disclosure 'clearly inadequate': The new study from environmental law firm ClientEarth

The new study from environmental law firm ClientEarth, reviewed the annual reports of every FTSE 100 firm and the largest 150 companies on the FTSE 250 to assess how companies were disclosing climate-related risk and data amongst mainstream annual filings.

The study found that more than 90% of companies made no reference to climate change and related factors in their financial accounts and audit reports. 1 crore people will get LPG connections for free: PM Modi

KOLKATA: Over one crore people in the country will get LPG connections for free under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. This was revealed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Haldia on Sunday while inaugurating a host of projects in the state.

He said in Bengal, over 90 lakh people have got gas under PMUY and, of them, 36 lakh are from the SC/ST category.

Coastal Gujarat Power merger with Tata Power by February-end

Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL), the wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power, turned cash-positive in the October-December quarter of 2020 after fuel under recovery reduced further to Rs 0.32 per unit from Rs 0.40 per unit a year ago on lower imported coal prices. Going forward, the merger of CGPL with Tata Power expected by February-end will provide Rs 10,000-crore tax break to the parent over several years.

Brookfield nears deal for Mahindra’s EPC biz, solar units

Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management Inc. has signed an exclusivity agreement to buy Mahindra Susten’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) business, besides 1,200 megawatts (MW) of solar assets, at an enterprise value of around ₹5,000 crore, two people aware of the development said.

About half these solar assets are currently under construction, the people cited above said, requesting anonymity. The enterprise value of a firm is calculated on the basis of market capitalization, debt and cash reserves.

Andhra Pradesh receives solar bids for 6,400 MW at Rs 2.48/kWh

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh said it has received bids for 6,400 megawatts of solar power plants at a low tariff of Rs 2.48 per kilowatt an hour (kWh) through reverse tenders and that it has ensured savings of Rs 3,800 crore in the first year. Four solar companies seek special incentives to invest close to Rs 1.5 lakh cr in Rajasthan

Jaipur: Four firms have sought special incentives from the state government to put up 34,200 MW solar projects and a component manufacturing facility having capacity for 2,000 MW. If approved, these projects are estimated to bring in investments of close to Rs 1.50 lakh-crore, including revenues of about Rs 10,000 crore to the government while generating employment for over 16,000 people, as per the proposals of the companies.
