Wind energy cos seek deadline extension for project completion

Wind energy companies in India woefully behind their project timelines have sought a blanket extension for all ongoing and future projects, calling the current 18-month timeframe "unviable". ACME Solar and ReNew Power Winners in MSEDCL’s 500 MW Solar Auction – Tariffs INR 2.42/kWh

ACME Solar Holdings and ReNew Solar Power were declared the winners in the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited’s (MSEDCL) auction to procure power from 500 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects (Phase VI) on a long-term basis.

ACME Solar Holdings won a capacity of 300 MW quoting ₹2.42 (~$0.032)/kWh. Meanwhile, ReNew Solar Power won 200 MW quoting ₹2.43 (~$0.033)/kWh.

Energycane produces more biodiesel than soybean at a lower cost

Bioenergy from crops is a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. New crops such as energycane can produce several times more fuel per acre than soybeans. Yet, challenges remain in processing the crops to extract fuel efficiently.

MoP clarification enables BSES discoms to exit NTPC PPA for the first time: Enables Discoms to relinquish entire allocated power from 25-yr-old projects

The Union power ministry has allowed BSES Delhi discoms to exit power purchase agreement with NTPC’s Dadri-I unit, in a first of its kind move that is likely to trigger many such requests. Hyundai Motor to invest in Solid Energy Systems, a next-gen battery company

Hyundai will invest USD 100 million (KRW 113.6 billion) in Solid Energy System corporations, the developer of lithium metal batteries. According to the industry, Hyundai Motor recently signed an equity investment agreement with this company.

Solid Energy, established as a start-up of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2021, developed a prototype lithium metal battery, a next-generation battery that made up for the shortcomings of existing lithium batteries. EU bets on energy savings, greener buildings to meet climate target -draft

The European Union will require countries to renovate energy-guzzling buildings faster and meet tougher targets to save energy as part of its drive to meet climate change goals, according to a draft document seen by Reuters.

Buildings produce more than a third of EU CO2 emissions and account for 40% of the bloc's energy consumption, making the sector a key threat to Europe's plan to reduce planet-warming emissions.

NTPC floats tender for deploying hydrogen fuel cell buses in Delhi, Leh

State-owned NTPC on Monday said its subsidiary NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN) has floated a tender for deployment of hydrogen fuel cell buses in Delhi and Leh. The bid document sale commenced from June 30, 2021 and will continue till July 16, 2021, NTPC said in a statement.

The e-buses would be zero-emission vehicles in true form as hydrogen would be generated from renewable energy making it a pure green initiative.

Gujarat Not to Allow Net Metering for Rooftop Solar Systems Over 10 kW

The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has proposed amendments to the ‘Net Metering Rooftop Solar Grid-Interactive Systems Regulations, 2016’.

As per the proposed amendments, net metering will be permitted for loads up to 10 kW, and gross metering will be provided for loads above 10 kW. The installed capacity has to be in the range of 1 kW to 1 MW.

India's Azure Power lands debt for 300 MW of solar in Rajasthan

Indian solar power producer Azure Power Global Ltd (NYSE:AZRE) has secured USD 163 million (EUR 137.3m) in syndicated debt financing for a 300-MW portfolio of photovoltaic (PV) projects in Rajasthan.

The five-year debt will be extended by a tie-up of lenders led by Japan’s Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), the latter said last week. Apart from being the lead manager, MUFG is also the hedging bank and facility agent for the financing deal.

Very high non-compliance of e-waste rules at 72 collection centres in Delhi: DPCC

Seventy-two e-waste collection centres in the capital have been found violating E-waste Management Rules and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has been requested to take action against them, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) said on Sunday.

The degree of non-compliance is "very high" looking at the findings of the inspections, the DPCC noted.

Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) have discovered a microbial enzyme that degrades tough-to-break bonds in lignin, a waste product of biorefineries. When inserted into a bioengineered bacterium, the enzyme helps efficiently convert lignin compounds into a common component of plastics—muconic acid—opening a pathway to transform waste into a commercially valuable biochemical.
