India installs 3.2 GW solar power projects in 2020: Report

Solar projects totalling 3.2 gigawatt (GW) have been installed in India during 2020, according to a Mercom Communications India report. Mercom Communications India is a subsidiary of Mercom Capital Group.

According to India Solar Market Leaderboard 2021 report released on Thursday, during the calendar year 2020, India installed 3.2 GW of solar power projects across the country.

The country also had a robust pipeline of 47.5 GW of utility-scale projects under development at the end of 2020, with another 24.5 GW of tenders pending auction, it said.

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is funding the 300MW wind-solar-storage project as part of its mission to promote sustainable infrastructure projects in partner countries like India.

Wind energy industry set to create 3.3 million jobs globally by 2025

New Delhi: The global wind energy industry is set to grow at a 4 per cent Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) through 2025, with additional 470 Gigawatt (GW) of capacity creation, helping create 3.3 million jobs over the period, according to a new report by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).

"The additional 470 GW of wind capacity through 2025 could equate to the creation of more than 3.3 million direct jobs in a dynamic supply chain around the world, based on existing datasets regarding job creation for onshore and offshore wind," the report said.

The top U.S. solar industry trade group on Thursday issued a set of voluntary guidelines to solar panel manufacturers that it said could help rid products installed in the United States of components built abroad with forced labor.

Coal plant insurance faces green hurdles

New Delhi: Thermal power plants are finding it difficult to obtain reinsurance cover in international markets as global giants tighten their environment, social and governance (ESG) policies. This has created capacity constraints for insuring coal-fired power projects, which are too big for the balance sheets of domestic insurers.

Niti Aayog Suggests Govt To Provide Incentives On EV Purchase Apart From Subsidy Under FAME-II

Government think-tank Niti Aayog has said the government should provide incentives on electric vehicle (EV) purchase over and above the existing subsidy under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and EV (FAME-II) scheme.

The Niti Aayog in its status quo analysis of electric mobility in India also said the government should include EVs and associated businesses in the priority sector lending category.

COVID-19 Second wave could delay 4 GW of solar, wind projects under 3-4 months extension

The recent surge in COVID-19 cases across the country has pushed several states under curfews and lockdowns, which is expected to result in project commissioning delays for solar projects, according to industry analysts.

Dues not paid by govt, Mizoram staring at power crisis

Aizawl: A power crisis in Mizoram is looming large as two of six public sector utilities may start regulating supply to the state, if the government, which is currently facing a fund crunch, is not able to pay a part of Rs 130 crore outstanding dues to these companies, a minister said on Wednesday. NTPC tenders 600 MW of wind-solar hybrid projects across India

State-run power producer NTPC has invited bids to develop an aggregate 600 MW of ISTS connected wind-solar hybrid power project anywhere in India. The projects are intended to be developed by NTPC Limited through its wholly-owned Subsidiary NTPC Renewable Energy Limited.

The projects shall be a hybrid of wind and solar power resources where the rated power capacity of one resource (wind or solar) shall be at least 33% of the total offered hybrid project capacity. Maharashtra tenders 1.3 GW solar for agricultural loads

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (MSEDCL) has invited bids to develop an aggregate 1.3 GW (AC) capacity of ground-mounted solar projects across 29 districts in the State. The district-wise cumulative capacity to be installed is either 25 MW or 50 GW.

The projects are to be set up under “Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana” for giving day-time power to agricultural consumers.

New fly ash utilisation rule for thermal power plants

NEW DELHI: Seeking to deal with environmentally hazardous fly ash generated from coal and lignite based thermal power plants (TPPs), the Centre has made it mandatory for such plants to ensure 100% utilisation of fly ash within three to five years. It also, for the first time, introduced fines on non-compliant plants under the ‘polluter pays principle’, taking into account utilisation targets from April 1 next year.

Renewable energy certificates trading shrinks to 9.2 lakh in 2020-21

The REC or green certificate trades were suspended in July 2020 after the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) decided to postpone the trading by four weeks while hearing three separate petitions related to an issue of fixing floor and forbearance prices of RECs by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).

EESL to implement energy efficiency drive for rural Andhra Pradesh

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), an energy service company of the Union government, has decided to implement one more LED lighting programme for the rural households of Andhra Pradesh. The state earlier installed 29.3 Lakh LED street lights.

The LED street lighting program is estimated to save 133 MU electricity per annum in urban areas and around 260 MU in the rural areas. This would reduce the Co2 emissions to the tune of about 0.33 million tons.
