India receives FDIs worth $1.77 billion in renewable energy in over two years

Government today said India received $ 1.77 billion foreign direct investment (FDI) in non-conventional energy sector from April 2014 to September 2016. 

"Total FDI equity inflow in the non-conventional energy sector during April 2014 to September 2016 was $ 1.77 billion," the Commerce and Industry Ministry said in a statement.

Government Medical College and Hospital burns its fingers in solar power project

Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has been caught on the wrong foot. It planned a solar power project and started executing it without state government's administrative approval. It even appointed Kanyaka Non-Conventional Energy Pvt Ltd as consultant without following the tendering process. Indian Government plans to phase out incandescent bulbs in the next 3 years

The government plans to phase out the iconic incandescent bulbs by 2020, putting gradual bans on production and sale starting with high voltage lamps, and encourage consumers to use energy efficient alternatives, an official said. 

Incandescent lamps consume 80 per cent more electricity than LED lamps, but are widely used in smaller cities and rural areas because they cost much less.

Tata Power’s non-fossil operating capacity climbs to 3,060 megwatt

Tata Power Company has added 1,346 mw of non-fossil based electricity generation capacity in 2016-17 so far, taking its green energy portfolio to 3,060 mw, the Tata group utility said Tuesday. 

“Taking a step further towards building a greener portfolio last year, the Company revised its share of non-fossil fuel based capacity up to 35-40% by 2025,” Tata Power said.
