Goa to set up floating solar plants on four dams

The state government has decided to set up a floating solar power plant on four dams in the state and has invited expression of interest (EoI) for selection of solar power developer for setting up of a grid connected floating solar power plant at these sites.

The solar power plants will be set up on Selaulim, Amthanem, Anjunem and Chapoli dams on a design, built, finance and operate model for a period of 25 years.

The last day to submit the EoI is October 25.

European Union launches first green bond with record size, demand

The European Union launched its first ever green bond to record demand on Tuesday, according to a lead manager, taking its first step to potentially becoming the biggest issuer of environmentally-friendly debt with a record-sized deal.

A team of scientists have used tea and banana waste to prepare non-toxic activated carbon, which is useful for several purposes like industrial pollution control, water purification, food and beverage processing, and odour removal. The newly developed process avoids usage of any toxic agent for synthesizing activated carbon, thus making the product cost-effective as well as non-toxic.

States asked to utilise unallocated power of the CGS only to meet the power requirement of their own Consumers

It has been brought to the notice of Ministry of Power that some States are not supplying power to their consumers and imposing load shedding. At the same time, they are also selling power in the power exchange at high price.

As per the guidelines for allocation of power, 15% power from the Central Generating Stations (CGS) are kept under "unallocated power" which is allocated by the Central Government to the needy States to meet the requirement of power of the consumers.

NTPC, Gujarat Gas to 'blend' hydrogen for homes

At a time when leading Indian companies like Reliance Industries Ltd and Adani Group are betting big on renewables with a special focus on hydrogen production, Indian government-owned National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in association with Gujarat Gas is also planning an ambitious project to blend hydrogen with piped natural gas (PNG).

To begin with, NTPC aims to reach out to its 200-home housing colony at Kawas near Surat by using about 100 cm/d of PNG where it will initially blend hydrogen to the extent of 5% for domestic use, to be later ramped up to 20%.

Power Ministry mandates energy accounting of DISCOMs with a view to reduce electricity losses

As an important step under the ongoing power sector reforms, Ministry of Power today mandated electricity distribution companies to undertake energy accounting on periodic basis. The regulation in this regard was issued by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) with the approval of Ministry of Power, under the provisions of Energy Conservation (EC) Act, 2001. The notification stipulates quarterly energy accounting by DISCOMs, through a certified Energy Manager, within 60 days. Centre issues guidelines on unallocated power to prevent misuse by states

The government has issued guidelines to ensure they states do not misuse electricity allocated from coal-based power stations of Central PSUs.

If any state is found selling power in power exchange or not scheduling this unallocated power, their unallocated power may be temporarily reduced or withdrawn and reallocated to other states which are in need of such power, an official statement issued by Union power ministry said.

Guidelines for operationalizing optimum utilization of generating stations as per the requirement in the Electricity Grid

It has been brought to the notice of the Government that some power plants are not generating to their full capacity at any given time and the unutilized capacity remains idle as they are tied up under power purchase agreements. Producers given targets to manage their plastic packaging waste in draft EPR notification

The Union environment ministry has come out with a draft notification for regulation of extended producer responsibility under plastic waste management rules 2016. The draft specifies the quantity of waste that will have to be managed by producers, importers and brand owners who generate plastic packaging waste in India.

DERC allows relaxation to power discoms in purchase of electricity

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission(DERC) on Saturday gave relaxation to distribution companies in power purchase in view of increased price and requested the Centre to urgently intervene and facilitate adequate supply of fuel to the generation plants to avoid any outages in the capital.
