Basic customs duty expected to increase solar bid tariffs by up to 50 paise per unit: ICRA

New Delhi: Basic customs duty (BCD) of 25 per cent and 40 per cent on imported solar cells and modules, respectively, is likely to result in an increase in solar tariffs, according to ratings agency ICRA.

It, however, added that this step would have a positive impact on domestic equipment manufacturers though the extent of benefit would depend upon the imported PV module prices, especially from China.

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) on Thursday said its Kamuthi solar plant in Tamil Nadu has become water positive.

A plant of a company becomes water positive when it harvests and recycles more water than what it consumes, AGEL said in a statement explaining the terminology 'water positive'.

DPCC to finalise plan to deal with batteries of e-vehicles by 2022

New Delhi: Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) is formulating an elaborate framework on how to manage batteries for electric vehicles to avoid pollution. It is likely to be out by next year. Delhi’s electric vehicle share has gradually been increasing over the last two years and officials say they are looking to avoid a situation where users are unaware of the proper mechanism to recycle batteries.

SJVN has emerged as preferred bidder over NTPC and received the letter of intent for the deal

State-run hydropower generator SJVN Ltd has outbid NTPC Ltd to emerge as the preferred bidder for PTC India Ltd’s 288-megawatts (MW) wind power assets spread across Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, two people aware of the development said.

SJVN Ltd has received the letter of intent (LoI) for the deal that has an enterprise value of around ₹2,000 crore. This is part of the country’s largest electricity trader PTC India’s strategy to exit its wind power business, owned by unit, PTC Energy Ltd.

Telangana discoms default on payment to solar developers

New Delhi: Telangana state electricity distribution companies (discoms) have not paid outstanding dues of around ₹3,200 crore to solar power developers, two people in the know said, requesting anonymity.

Odisha has most contaminated sites in India: CPCB data

Odisha topped the list of states and Union territories with the maximum number of contaminated sites, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.

Of the 112 sites in India contaminated by toxic and hazardous substances, 23 were in Odisha followed by Uttar Pradesh (21) and Delhi (11), the CPCB data released March 7, 2021 said.

Renewable energy potential of Assam stands at 14,487 MW, solar takes largest share

New Delhi: The northeastern state of Assam has a renewable energy potential of 14,487 megawatt (MW) with solar energy taking the largest share, new and renewable energy minister R K Singh said in a written reply in Parliament on Tuesday.

According to the data provided in Parliament, solar energy has the highest potential in the state with 13,760 MW capacity, followed by biomass with 279 MW, wind energy with 246 MW, and small hydro projects with 202 MW capacities.

It showed that geothermal energy and tidal energy had no potential in the state.

Discom debt at Rs 6 trillion; negative outlook on power distribution: ICRA

Consolidated debt of state power distribution companies is estimated at Rs 6 trillion in FY2022, highest post implementation of debt restructure scheme under Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojna (Uday), ICRA said on Wednesday.

This is in addition to Rs 1.27 trillion pending discom payables to power generators as of December 2020, 30% higher on a year-on-year basis.

Wells Fargo announced today a series of environmental sustainability initiatives, including setting a net zero 2050 target, encompassing financed emissions. BBVA will reduce to zero its exposure to coal-related activities, stopping the financing of companies in this business by 2030 in developed countries, and by 2040 in the rest of the countries of its footprint. Gujarat electricity distribution and trading company - Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd - has been barred by the Supreme Court to terminate the power purchasing agreement (PPA) with an insolvent company - Astonfield Solar (India) Pvt Ltd.

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed an appeal by the GUVNL against an order by the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), which had earlier stayed the termination of PPA on grounds that the power generator - Astonfield Solar (India) - had filed for insolvency.

Maharashtra Regulator Denies Solar Developer’s Plea to Return Bank Guarantee

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has dismissed ACME Solar’s plea for the return of performance bank guarantee (PBG).

It said that the power purchase agreement (PPA) specifies conditions for the return of PBG. The Commission noted that it could not go beyond the PPA provisions, nor was there any provision to replace PBG with any other instrument.

CHENNAI (Reuters) - India will levy a customs duty of 40% on solar modules and 25% on solar cells from April 2022, according to a government document and two industry sources familiar with the matter, as it looks to cut imports and boost local manufacturing.

World Bank okays $86 mln for energy efficiency in Vietnam

HANOI March 8, 2021 — The World Bank, acting on behalf of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), has signed a US$11.3 million grant with the State Bank of Vietnam to support the development of a commercial financing market for industrial energy efficiency investments. The total financing support from GCF also includes a US$75 million guarantee.
