India’s CO2 emissions fell by 1% in 2019-20 financial year

India’s CO2 emissions fell by around 1% in the financial year ending March 2020, which is the first year-on-year reduction recorded since 1982, according to a Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) . The analysis is based on India’s financial year 2019-20 fossil fuel generation and consumption data including coal and oil. The country’s CO2 emissions fell by an estimated 15% during the month of March and are likely to have fallen 30% in April, the analysis published in CarbonBrief, a portal on climate and energy news on Tuesday said. Key environment panels defer decisions on Dibang valley hydropower and Mumbai marina projects

Key expert panels of environment ministry have deferred decisions on certain projects, including 3,097 MW of Etalin Hydropower Project in Arunachal Pradesh’s Dibang valley and Mumbai Port Trust’s marina project, due to emerging ecological concerns, questions on viability and inadequate information on tables to take a final call. India losing almost a million under-5 children annually: Study

Even as the under 5 mortality rate (U5MR) in India has reduced by almost 50% in the past two decades, the country is still losing at least a million children annually before they reach their fifth birthday. Only one-third SECI wind projects commissioned so far

Only about one-third of 6,000 megawatt wind power capacity auctioned by the Solar Energy Corporation of India in four tranches between 2017 and 2018 have been commissioned so far despite their deadlines ending. Electric two-wheeler maker Okinawa on Monday said it has resumed operations at its plant in Bhiwadi (Rajasthan), and corporate office in Gurugram (Haryana), with 25 per cent workforce. South harnesses more solar power during lockdown

Southern states generated more solar power during the lockdown, as a component of the total power supply in April. Despite demand being less during lockdown compared to normal times, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were able to use 2,655 million units of solar power compared to all other states, which generated 2,133 million units in the month. Saudi Arabia raises June Arab light crude price to Asia

Saudi Arabia's state oil giant Aramco has raised the June price for its Arab light crude oil to Asia by $1.40 a barrel from May, setting it at a discount of $5.90 to the Oman/Dubai average, according to a document seen by Reuters on Thursday.
