India’s CO2 emissions fell by 1% in 2019-20 financial yearIndia’s CO2 emissions fell by around 1% in the financial year ending March 2020, which is the first year-on-year reduction recorded since 1982, according to a Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) . India losing almost a million under-5 children annually: StudyEven as the under 5 mortality rate (U5MR) in India has reduced by almost 50% in the past two decades, the country is still losing at least a million children annually before they reach their fifth birthday. Only one-third SECI wind projects commissioned so farOnly about one-third of 6,000 megawatt wind power capacity auctioned by the Solar Energy Corporation of India in four tranches between 2017 and 2018 have been commissioned so far despite their deadlines ending. South harnesses more solar power during lockdownSouthern states generated more solar power during the lockdown, as a component of the total power supply in April. Despite demand being less during lockdown compared to normal times, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were able to use 2,655 million units of solar power compared to all other states, which generated 2,133 million units in the month.
