Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to join worldwide demonstrations this week ahead of a UN climate summit in New York, as unions and some businesses lend their support for faster action to fight climate change. Hero Cycles seeks incentives under FAME2, to promote its e-bikes

Country’s biggest bicycle maker Hero Cycles on Tuesday said that if electric bicycles come under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India (FAME2 Scheme), the company can bring more products at lower cost, as low as ₹10,000. “I want to ask the government what is the reason that they can’t bring the e-bicycles under that scheme? One of India’s largest coal-mining states says it will not build new coal power plants

The future of coal in India may not be as bright as some previously assumed.

The central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, home to the country’s third-largest coal reserves, will not build any new coal power plants, Shailendra Kumar Shukla, chairman of Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company, a state-owned utility, told Quartz India.

This comes only days after the government in the western state of Gujarat announced it will not give permission to build new coal power plants. Neither state, however, has made the decision permanent via legislation.

BRICS bank greenlights new projects in India, Russia & South Africa worth $1.4bn

The New Development Bank (NDB) has approved four new infrastructure and development projects with loans totaling $1.4 billion. New investments bring the BRICS bank’s portfolio to 42 projects worth $11.6 billion. The decision to finance the projects in India, Russia, and South Africa was made at the 21st meeting of the board of directors in Shanghai earlier this month, according to an NDB statement released on Monday. All PET recycled in State: PepsiCo India

PepsiCo India has said it has achieved the milestone of 100% PET collection and recycling in Maharashtra as part its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programme. The State is the second after Delhi to achieve the 100% PET recycling target, the company said. PepsiCo worked with GEM Enviro Management, a waste management company, in this effort. It has put up 100 collection points in 36 districts of the State for the recycling of used PET bottles. In an attempt to give a boost to the manufacture and use of electric vehicles in the State, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday released the Tamil Nadu Electric Vehicle Policy, 2019, which provided for various concessions to manufacturers and users of e-vehicles. Rs 50,000 crore Japanese EV boost in Gujarat

Japanese majors Suzuki Motors, Toshiba and Denso have formed a consortium to set up a plant for manufacturing lithium-ion batteries and electrodes in Gujarat. The plant will come up near Hansalpur in Gujarat. The proposed lithium-ion battery plant will be the biggest in the world, claimed sources in the know.
