LNJ Bhilwara Group, a multi-diversified conglomerate, on Monday said it has entered into the lithium-ion battery business through its private promoter entities.

It added that the group has entered into a joint venture with Replus Engitech, a Pune-based company into advanced energy storage products and solutions, to establish a 1-GW plant for lithium-ion battery modules and packs, battery management systems, energy management systems, and containerised battery energy solutions.

US envoy Kerry says world needs a 'wartime mentality' over climate

U.S. climate envoy John Kerry said on Monday the world needed to adopt a "wartime mentality" to face the challenge posed by climate change, urging development banks to scale up their green finance efforts.

While countries covering 55% of global GDP came out of President Biden's recent climate summit committed to net zero emissions by 2050, much deeper action was needed between now and 2030 for the mid-century goals to have any chance of success.

NTPC Declares its Energy Compact Goals towards Sustainability

NTPC Limited, India’s largest power generating company under Ministry of Power has become first energy company in energy domain in India to declare its Energy Compact goals as part of UN High-level Dialogue on Energy (HLDE). NTPC has set a target to install 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. India’s largest power producer is also aiming at 10% reduction in net energy intensity by 2032.

Govt extends second phase of FAME scheme for electric vehicles by 2 years

The government on Friday said it has extended the second phase of FAME India scheme by two years till March 31, 2024, for faster adoption of electric mobility and development of its manufacturing ecosystem in the country.

The second phase of FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) India scheme focuses on supporting electrification of public and shared transportation.

Gujarat discoms sign pacts for 3,979 solar projects with 2,500 MW capacity

Gujarat's four public-owned electricity distribution companies have signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 3,979 small-scale distributed solar projects with aggregate capacity of 2,500 MW, the government said on Saturday.

These small-scale distributed solar projects, to be commissioned within the next 18 months, will bring in an investment of over Rs 10,000 crore in the state for the development of green energy and allied sectors, it said.

Bangladesh scraps 10 coal-fired power plants

Bangladesh announced Sunday that it has scrapped at least 10 major coal-fired power plants as it seeks to scale up its power generation from renewable energy sources.

Nasrul Hamid, the state minister for power and energy, said the decision was taken in light of technological changes and as dozens of countries halt new coal-fired power projects due to their impact on the environment.

India calls for common global standards for green hydrogen

India pitched for common international standards for green hydrogen at the BRICS Green Hydrogen Summit, to ensure safe transportation and storage of the new age emission-free fuel.

Gujarat govt's incentives, FAME-II subsidy may cut electric 2-wheelers' prices by ₹30k: ICRA

Incentives under the Gujarat government's electric vehicle (EV) policy, coupled with enhanced subsidy under the Centre's FAME-II scheme, will lead to a price reduction of electric two-wheelers by around ₹30,000 in the state, according to ratings agency ICRA.

With the state government also offering incentives for electric four-wheelers at ₹10,000 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), the ratings agency said there is a possible price reduction of ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh for electric cars in Gujarat.

The Biden administration on Wednesday ordered a ban on U.S. imports of a key solar panel material from Chinese-based Hoshine Silicon Industry Co (603260.SS) over forced labor allegations, two sources briefed on the matter said.

The Gujarat government's new electric vehicles policy has fuelled optimism among EV makers and sellers in the state.

The Gujarat Electric Vehicle Policy 2021 provides for subsidy of up to Rs 20,000 on EVs in the two-wheeler category, Rs 50,000 for three-wheelers, and up to Rs 1.5 lakh for cars. A ‘bio-refinery’: using the chemistry of willow trees to treat Canada’s municipal wastewater

Every year in Canada, six trillion litres of municipal wastewater are partially treated and released into the environment, while another 150 billion litres of untreated sewage are discharged straight into pristine surface waters.

Now researchers have found a way to stem that flow: by filtering the waste through the roots of willow trees. Experimenting with a plantation in Quebec, the scientists estimate that over 30 million litres of primary wastewater per hectare can be treated using ‘bio-refinery’ annually.

India will issue draft guidelines in a fortnight to enable power distribution companies to offer renewable energy to large consumers at a separate green tariff, a weighted average of the utilities’ cost of procurement of green energy, power and renewable energy minister R K Singh said on Tuesday.

Green hydrogen would be brought under renewable purchase obligation (RPO), Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh said on Tuesday.

Govt to roll out pumped hydro storage policy soon: R K Singh

The government will soon announce a pumped hydro storage policy for which 63 projects with 96 gigawatt (GW) capacity have already been identified, said power and renewable energy minister R K Singh on Tuesday.
