COVID-19: Siemens Gamesa shuts factories in India
Siemens Gamesa has closed manufacturing plants in India in response to a three-week government-enforced lockdown across the country to curtail the spread of coronavirus. Blade manufacturing in Nellore and Halol, in Andra Pradesh and Gujarat, respectively, are affected, the company said. A nacelle factory in Mamandur and an operations and maintenance centre in RedHills, both in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, are also closed, a spokeswoman confirmed. She said: “Considering the situation, operations at our manufacturing facilities at Mamandur, Redhills, Nellore, and Halol will be suspended during the 21-day lockdown period.” Previously this month Siemens Gamesa closed two factories in Spain after employees in each one tested positive for coronavirus. The factories in question are a blade manufacturing plant at Aoiz, Navarre, and a site in San Fernando de Henares in Madrid, which produces power electronics equipment.
