All water supply schemes to run on solar power
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that all rural water supply schemes will be supplied solar energy so that Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd (MSEDCL) doesn’t disconnect them for non-payment of power bills.
Fadnavis praised energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule for introducing the scheme for supplying solar power to water supply schemes.
Addressing the e-inauguration of 111 water supply schemes in divisional commissioner’s office, the CM said BJP-Shiv Sena government had sanctioned 20,000 rural water supply schemes and completed 8,000 ones sanctioned during the previous regime. “We have also sanctioned 10,000 more schemes,” he said.
Bawankule, water supply minister Babanrao Lonikar, additional chief secretary (water supply) Shyamlal Goyal, divisional commissioner Sanjeev Kumar and others were present at the function.
“We have constructed 60 lakh toilets to make Maharashtra open defecation free. We will provide broadband connectivity to 10,000 villages. With this, schools, gram panchayat offices and public health centres can directly talk to Mantralaya officials for solving their problems. We will also provide Internet connectivity to 30,000 gram panchayats to make them smart,” he said.
“The government has already planted 20 crore trees and want to plant 23 crore more. Gram panchayats should take initiative in planting trees. Those doing it will be declared green gram panchayats and rewarded,” Fadnavis said.
